Westwinds Online Advent Calendar – Day 14
It’s 9 days until Christmas!
Every day of Advent we will present you with treats and tries. Treats are totally free giveaways sponsored by Westwinds and our friends in the community. Tries are challenges designed to help you experience a more meaningful Christmas season.
For today’s giveaway, we’ve designed a robot action figure for you to download and build. They come in three different colors! Check out the steps posted below. It works best if you make it from card stock, but it will work with regular paper, too!
Build one of these robots and give it to a buddy!
Merry Christmas!
- Choose a template to print. Scroll to the bottom of this page to find them! Cardstock works best, but isn’t critical.
- Cut out each of the five blocks.
- Take the two wide blocks (with the face, hat, torso, and feet), and a pencil to roll them around.
- Wrap the feet and torso around the pencil the long way, keeping the color on the outside and starting the roll on the side with the labels (the words that say feet, face, etc.)
- Slide the pencil or pen partway out of the paper tube and flatten the tube.
- Finish flattening the tube.
- Do the same with the other wide strip of paper (with the face and hat)
- Take a small piece of paper, fold it it in half, and punch a hole in it. This will be a guide for the rest of the paper tubes.
- Roll the arms, legs, head, shoulders, and hips into tubes big enough to snugly fit through the hole punch hole.
- You can twist the tube as you push it into the guide hole to get the size just right.
- You can tape the tubes at the right size, or just leave them rolled.
- Punch holes in the center of the tube at every bright blue line.
- For the small tubes, it works best if you put them in the guide hole while you punch them. Be careful to punch exactly in the center. There won’t be much room on either side!
- Once all the holes are punched, cut along every black line.
- Prepare the pieces for assembly.
- You can peak under the edge of the roll to see the labels for each piece.
- Put the head, shoulders, and hips through the torso.
- Fold the face and hat into a U shape.
- The hat attaches to each side of the head.
- The face will attach to bosh sides of the shoulders.
- Attach the arms and legs
- Attach the feet
- Bend the arms wherever you want the elbows and hands to be!
- Start the robot uprising.
