Prayers of the People
Prayers of the People
One of the Practices That Helps Us Center Jesus
When Jesus taught his disciples to pray (Matthew 6), he gave them shared words and a shared way of being with God– a rhythm of trust, surrender, forgiveness, and hope.
We pray like that too: together, trusting God with our needs and the needs of our community.
Prayer is a shared practice– a posture we move through the world with.
With open hands and open hearts,
we bring our needs.
We carry one another’s burdens.
We listen for the Spirit.
We trust that God is already at work—in us, around us, and through us.
We pray to be formed—into the likeness of Jesus.
Slowly, daily, together.
The Lord's Prayer
We pray the Lord’s Prayer to stay centered— to align our lives with God’s will, ask for what we need, receive and extend forgiveness, for protection, and to give glory to God.
And we pray knowing we’re not alone. These are the words of the global Church, the ancient Church, the Church right now– words prayed in cathedrals and kitchens, in joy and sorrow, in many languages and lands. They root us. They guide us. They remind us who we are and whose we are.
